ROUNDTABLE
The
following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported
to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in July 2003:
AWARDS
Dr. Dwight Moore, associate professor in the Department
of Biological
Sciences, was awarded a Phi Kappa Phi Literacy Initiative Work Group
grant for $2500 in conjunction with the Emporia Literacy Program.
Dr. David Kaplan, professor and chair of the Department
of Counselor
Education and Rehabilitation Programs, has been selected for the 2004
edition of Who's Who in America.
PRESENTATIONS
Dr. Charles Brown, professor in the Department of Social
Sciences,
presented his paper entitled "The Intrinsic Rationality of Moral
Phenomena" at the Fifth World Congress of the International Society
for Universal Dialogue in Olympia, Greece on May 18, 2003. His paper
was
awarded the 2003 Jens Jacobsen Research Prize by the International
Society for Universal Dialogue.
Dr. David Kaplan, professor and chair of the Department
of Counselor
Education and Rehabilitation Programs, presented "Knowledge- Based
Governance: An Introduction" to the California Association for
Counseling and Development in Los Angeles, the Illinois Counseling
Association in Chicago, and the Wisconsin Counseling Association in
Madison during the month of July.
PUBLICATIONS
Dr. Ron McCoy, professor in the Department of Social
Sciences, had
"Seven Cities of Cibola" published in Arizona Highways, Vol.
79,
No. 6 (June 2003), pp. 16-19. "Voyage of Discoveries," McCoy's
review essay of Brian Hill's historical novel about the Lewis and
Clark expedition---I Shall Be Extremely Happy in Your Company- --was
published in The World & I, Vol. 18, No. 5 (May 2003), pp. 217-222.
Dr. David Saunders, associate professor in the Department
of Biological
Sciences, and graduate student, Nicole Palenske, had "Blood viscosity
and hematology of American bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) at low
temperature" published in the Journal of Thermal Biology.
Dr. Richard Schrock, professor in the Department of
Biological
Sciences, had the following articles published: "A Summary of Modern
Education Reforms in the United States" in Shengwuxue Jiaoxue
(translation Biology Teaching), "Real Animal Labwork Provides
Educational Value That Simulations Do Not Provide" in April 2003
Shengwuxue Jiaoxue (translation Biology Teaching), and "Why do
I
oppose the current trend toward standardized testing?"Indiana
Association of Biology Teachers Newsletter.

Please identify all individuals named in your submission according to title (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, e.g.) and department (Department of Biological Sciences, Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, e.g.). Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.
If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.
The Roundtable publishes announcements in the following categories: appointments, awards, conferences, grants, presentations, and publications. Other categories may be included as needed. Announcements are published after the fact, so please hold future information and submit after occurrence.
