ESU recognizes education faculty
ESU recently honored four faculty members of The Teachers College for outstanding achievement in instruction, service and scholarly activity. The annual awards were based on nominations from the faculty's department and selected by a university-wide committee.
Dr. Scott Irwin,
professor in early childhood and elementary teacher education, received the award for excellence in instruction. Irwin was recognized for his35 years of teaching science education, high scores on student appraisals, and overall classroom effectiveness.
The award for excellence in scholarly activity was presented to
Dr. Connie Briggs,
associate professor in the department of early childhood and elementary teacher education. Briggs is also director of ESU's Reading Recovery training program. Briggs is a national leader in reading education and research. She is active in taking her work to a wide variety of audiences for the benefit of children. She received award because of her noteworthy scholarly writing, research, and professional presentations.
Dr. P. Kay Duncan,
professor in the department of school leadership, and middle and secondary teacher education, was recognized with the award for excellence in service. Dr. Duncan was noted for her dedication to serving the education community from pre-kindergarten through higher education at the local, state, and national levels. She is best known for her service and leadership associated with the Kansas Association of Elementary School Principals.
Dr. Sharon Karr,
professor in the department of psychology and special education, was the recipient of the Darryl E. Wood Service Award which recognizes the outstanding and unique contributions given by an individual in supporting the mission of The Teachers College.
