ROUNDTABLE
The
following is a summary of faculty and staff accomplishment reported
to ESU Public Affairs and Marketing in November 2003:
PRESENTATIONS
Dr. David Kaplan, professor and chair of the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, presented “Knowledge-Based Governance: An introduction.” at the American Counseling Association Leadership Academy in Washington DC on November 2. Kaplan served as the keynote speaker at the Oklahoma Counseling Association Fall Conference in Edmond, Oklahoma on November 7. While on November 14, Kaplan presented the keynote address at the Illinois Counseling Association annual conference in Springfield, Illinois.
Dr. Ron McCoy, professor in the Department of Social Sciences, served as the commentator for the “From White House to Classroom: Imagery and Politics in Western Art” session at the 43rd Annual Conference of the Western History Association in Fort Worth, TX, in October.
Dr. Jim Johnson, Dr. Jorge Ballester and Dr. Robert Jones, professors in the Department of Physical Sciences, represented ESU at the joint annual meetings of the A-O-K (Arkansas-Oklahoma-Kansas) and Nebraska Sections of the AAPT (American Association of Physics Teachers). The meetings were held on November 7-8 simultaneously with the Big 12 Physics Education Research Conference at Kansas State University. Johnson co-presented a featured workshop on “Physics Modeling” and was one of the presenters/panelists on a session dedicated to “High Quality Physics Teacher Preparation in Rural America.” Johnson was also elected to the section position of Kansas Representative for 4-Year Colleges. Ballester presented a contributed talk “Creation of Online Physics Experiments,” coauthored with Chuck Pheatt (ESU Computer Science). Ballester also contributed to the physics teaching “Share-A-Thon.” Jones won a physics equipment door prize which he generously donated to the ESU physics laboratory.
PUBLICATIONS
Dr. Ron McCoy, professor in the Department of Social Sciences, recently published two articles in the journal American Indian Art: “‘I Have a Mysterious Way’: Kiowa Shield Designs and Origin Stories Collected by James Mooney, 1891-1906” (Winter 2003), and “A Shield to Help You through Life: Kiowa Shield Designs and Origin Stories Collected by James Mooney, 1891-1906” (Spring 2003).
Dr. Kalu N. Kalu, professor in the Department of Social Sciences, published “Entrepreneurs or Conservators?: Contractarian Principles of Bureaucratic Performance,” in the Journal of Administration & Society, Vol. 35(5), November 2003, Sage Publications.

Please identify all individuals named in your submission according to title (professor, associate professor, assistant professor, instructor, e.g.) and department (Department of Biological Sciences, Counselor Education and Rehabilitation Programs, e.g.). Include the designation "Dr." where appropriate.
If your submission lists someone from another university, please indicate the name and location (city, state) of the university.
