Motivational speaker Kyle Maynard coming to campus
March 30, 2015
A motivational speaker, humanitarian and the first quadruple amputee to climb Mount Kilimanjaro will bring his inspirational story of overcoming obstacles to Emporia State University next week.
Kyle Maynard will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015, in Albert Taylor Hall on the Emporia State campus. The free event is sponsored by Union Activities Council student organization.
Maynard is a motivational speaker, a New York Times bestselling author, an entrepreneur and an award-winning athlete. He is known for being the first quadruple amputee to bear crawl atop Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft.) without the aid of prosthetics. Maynard’s famous catchphrase is “no excuses,” which is also the title of his New York Times bestselling book.
He believes that everyone can do anything that they put their minds to, and he is certainly a living testament to that belief. Not only has he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, but he has also traveled around the world to speak at corporate meetings, grade schools, universities and programs supporting injured U.S. veterans. His accolades are many:
- Two-time ESPY Award winner (2004 Best Athlete with a Disability and 2012 Best Male Athlete with a Disability)
- National Wrestling Hall of Fame member (2007)
- Elected by the U.S. Jaycees as one of the Top Ten Outstanding Young Americans
- Received the Highest Recognition Award of the Secretary of Health and Human Services for his efforts as a life role model, motivational speaker and humanitarian (2007)
But even after he received all of these very important awards, Maynard’s deepest passion is helping others on their path towards reaching their highest human potential.
