Third Thursday Update — September 2011

September 15, 2011

September Greetings!
I may have written before about our desire to create a building with a greater sense of school spirit and flavor so that when you are in the Union there is no question you are at ESU. Some of the special features will be installed next week scheduled for Monday, September 19th. A custom University Seal in tile will be installed in the atrium floor and a tile Power E will go into the floor in the West Lobby. We are getting very close to the West Lobby installation of the Evolution of Corky display, as well. Keep watch as you pass through the Union.

Details/Grand Opening
I want to thank students, Ashley Vogts, Eden Tullis, and Kileen Ibarra and M.U. staff, Robin Crockett, Nancy Standiferd, and Roger Heineken for serving on the decorating committee to help create finishing touches in the completed portions of the building. They are working to make the “living room” of campus a welcoming place for all our constituents.

Speaking of Eden Tullis, I would like to thank her for organizing the Hornets Nest grand opening following the Huge Activities Fair last week. Well over 600 of you turned out for this event.

RSO Promotion Passage
The bland drywall construction passage connecting the east to west first floor of the Union is now colorful thanks to the creative energy of many RSO members. Presently there is a waiting list of organizations wishing to promote events or the group itself. If you would like to be added to this list contact Blythe Eddy or Mary Shivley at x5481.

Week #62
The anodized aluminum column wraps have been installed in the West Lobby and are going in the Nest currently. Metal cladding will be finished in the next week on the new west entry from Union Square Ongoing concrete work in Union Square should be completed in a few weeks. Walls are being painted on the 3rd floor of the 1925 original building for Student Publications and the new ASG Senate Chamber. Drywall is being installed in the Office of International Education and Career Services on the level beneath the Hornets Nest. Floor tile is scheduled to go down there on October 1.

On September 6th demolition began on the second floor meeting rooms and rest rooms west of the Ballroom. The Kanza, Flint Hills and Greek Rooms are roughly finished and are being scheduled. Large openings now visually connect the former Health Services to the Main Street area for the future Center for Student Involvement offices. Ceiling duct work is being installed on Main Street and soffit framing will begin soon.

Go Hornets!
