Students experience Diamond Jubilee during London trip

August 20, 2012

Dr. Mel Storm, a professor and the director of graduate studies in the English, Modern Language, and Journalism Department at Emporia State University, recently went on a study abroad trip to London and the surrounding area. One of the 14 students who traveled with the group was Kari Bowles (Bozeman, MT). One of her favorite experiences from the trip was traveling around London and taking in shows.

“[I visited] the Old Vic Theatre in London where Kevin Spacey is the director. I saw the ‘Duchess of Malfi.’ I also saw ‘Wicked’ and the Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of ‘Twelfth Night.’”

Along with the regular sights in London, the group got to witness history because they were there during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. They also witnessed an anti-monarchy protest on Fleet Street. The London program is offered annually and is open to all majors who want to be a part of it.
