Search for next Emporia State president moves forwardAugust 15, 2011
The committee charged with finding the next president of Emporia State University should have its job finished by the end of 2011, Deryl Wynn, chair of the committee told ESU staff and faculty Monday, Aug. 15, 2011.
“But I won’t rush it just to get it done,” Wynn said. “I want it done well.”
Wynn presented a report of the search during the Fall 2011 General Assembly for faculty and staff to kick off the new academic year at ESU.
So far, Wynn said, advertisements have been placed in traditional higher-education markets. In addition, the search-consulting firm of Witt/Kieffer is sending about 300 emails to targeted audiences, including CEOs, presidents and chief academic officers at ESU’s peer institutions, Kansas colleges and universities and those at institutions named to U.S. News and World Report’s Best Master’s Midwest list; as well as deans of schools of library science and of those named Best Schools of Education programs by U.S. News.
Witt/Kieffer consultants also will make phone calls to follow up on select emails and also seek out executives at leading nonprofit or corporations who would know ESU.
In the end, Wynn said, he hopes the committee will winnow the applicants down to anywhere from 10 to 24 for a second look before sending the names of three finalists to the Kansas Board of Regents. The finalists will be invited to the campus for public forums, then will be interviewed by the Regents, who will make the final hiring decision.
