Recognized by Beta Phi Mu International as an outstanding student beginning library and information studies at an American Library Association Accredited school, Lora Lyn Worden, an Emporia State University School of Library and Information Management , Master of Library Science student attending classes in Portland, Ore., was awarded the Sarah Rebecca Reed Scholarship in the amount of $2,250. This is one of only two Sarah Rebecca Reed scholarships awarded annually by BPM International.
The Sarah Rebecca Reed Scholarship awarded by BPM International is one of several prestigious, academic scholarships named in honor of Sarah Rebecca Reed. Reed was a leader in the field of library education in North America. Reed served as director of the Department of Library Science at Emporia State University from 1975 to 1978. Before coming to ESU, she was the founding director of the School of Library Science at the University of Alberta, Canada, and faculty member in the Graduate School at Indiana University, Bloomington. On June 17, 1978, Reed and several colleagues were killed when a boat they were on was capsized by a tornado.
