Children's show to close 2011 Summer Theatre seasonJuly 12, 2011
ESU Theatre concludes its 57th annual summer theatre season with a children’s show July 20-23, "The Monster Under the Bed" by Kevin Dyer.
Ben is a young boy with a BIG problem. His mom is acting grumpy, his best friend Vince has stolen his precious binoculars and his dad is far, far away — oh, and there's a monster under the bed. But when Ben swaps places with the under-bed monster, Ben's life — and his school — is turned inside out, and upside down.
This is a funny and thrilling play for children about friendship and facing up to fear. A play for the whole family, this production is under the direction of Jim and Lindy Bartruff.
ESU Theatre alum Ben Williams will design the set. His wife, Susan Williams, also an ESU theatre alum, will design the costumes. The Production Stage Manager is Amanda Devine, senior, Hutchison. The cast is Andrew McCutcheon (freshman, Gardner), Andrew Walker (junior, Wichita), Elise Blann (senior, Newton), Natalie King (junior, Wichita), Tommy Govert (senior, Arkansas City), Danny Roberts (junior, Cherryvale) and Brianne Simon (BFA, Rosalia).
The first three performances are in the Karl C. Bruder Theatre in King Hall, with a 7:30 p.m. curtain. However, the final performance of The Monster Under the Bed will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday July 23. Individual tickets and season passes are available from the university box office at (620) 341-6378.
