The National Teachers Hall of Fame will roll out the red carpet to honor its 20th induction class June 15 through 17.

The NTHF was established in Emporia in 1989. Beginning in 1992, five teachers have been selected each year for induction into the hall. This year’s 20th-anniversary class of teachers are:

  • James Percoco who teaches 11th- and 12th-grade history at West Springfield High School in Springfield, Va.; and
  • Mark Weaver, seventh-grade science teacher at Clay Middle School in Carmel, Ind.

The inductees will arrive in Emporia on Wednesday, June 15 and be special guests at Live in the Lot, the city of Emporia’s outdoor concert series at 7 p.m. followed by an outdoor movie, “Stand and Deliver,” the true story of dedicated math teacher Jaime Escalante and his work with dropout-prone students. The movie stars Edward James Olmos and Lou Diamond Phillips.
