Linda Adams-Wendling named new chair of nursing programMay 23, 2013
A former faculty member of the Emporia State University Newman Division of Nursing has returned to Emporia as chair of the department. Dr. Linda Adams-Wendling of Olpe will begin her new duties on Aug. 1.
“I am so excited to return to ESU-Newman Division of Nursing,” Adams-Wendling said. “The community partnership between Newman Regional Health and Emporia State University has provided an exemplary environment for this outstanding nursing program. The nursing faculty in the ESU-Newman Division of Nursing are amazing and I look forward to rejoining the Emporia State University/Newman Regional Health team. GO HORNETS!”
Adams-Wendling has worked in clinical and hospital settings in the nursing field since 1974 when she earned her licensed practical nurse degree from Iowa Western Community College in Harlan, Iowa. Adams-Wendling has earned associate, bachelor’s and doctorate degrees in nursing; and master’s degrees in business administration and nursing administration. She also is a gerontological nurse practitioner.
She first came to the ESU Newman Division of Nursing in July 2000 as an assistant professor. She was promoted to associate professor in May 2006. In July 2010, she was named chair/director of the Division/Department of Nursing Education at Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina.
Earlier this month, Adams-Wendling received the Student Government Distinguished Faculty Service Award during the KWU Honors Convocation. The award recognizes innovative instruction, inspiring ability, and commitment to student success, and the recipient is chosen by students from across campus.
“We at Emporia State University look forward to working with Linda in her position as division chair,” said Dr. Marie Miller, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Emporia State University. “Linda brings to this position a strong combination of expertise and experience along with her forward-looking strategic planning skills.”
As chair, Adams-Wendling will also serve on the Newman Regional Health staff.
“Linda has an innovative approach to enhancing positive student experiences,” said Julia Pyle, chief nursing officer at Newman Regional Health. “We are looking forward to collaborating with her to ensure the ESU Newman Division of Nursing students receive the best clinical experience possible.”
