ESU Scholarship Run/Walk raises dollars for studentsApril 30, 2012
Nearly 150 runners and walkers were registered to hit the streets and sidewalks around the Emporia State University campus Thursday, April 26, helping raise money for student scholarships.
Ideal weather conditions graced the ESU Scholarship Run/Walk in memory of John Blaufuss, both a celebration of a respected ESU colleague's life and a chance to help meet the dreams of students whose education is dependent on scholarships.
Top finisher in the men’s 5-kilometer race was William Hohmeier of Emporia. Hohmeier finished in a time of 16:52. Angie Indra, Emporia, was the top women’s finisher at 22:27.
The event raised approximately $8,000 for scholarships, said Angela Fullen, ESU Foundation manager of annual giving.
“I’m very pleased with both the number of community and student participants we had, and by the response from local businesses who contributed products and services to make this a family-friendly event,” Fullen said.
