Car show benefits Emporia State scholarship fund

The 17th annual Super Custom Car Show on Sunday, April 27, will benefit students at Emporia State University.

The car show beginning at noon Sunday, April 27, in the 1000 and 1100 blocks of Commercial Street, will feature family entertainment and plenty of vehicles for judging. Registration for entrants will be from 10 a.m. to noon. The entry fee is $20 in each of four categories — cars, trucks, sound-off stereo and SPL.

First-place trophies and second-place plaques will be awarded in each individual category — antique, classic, domestic 1980-95, domestic 1996-2014, Corvette, street rod, hot rod, low rider, muscle car, imports, Camaros, trucks, SUV, under construction and miscellaneous.

First-place trophies will be awarded for paint, graphics, interior and club participation. The vehicle awarded Best of Show will receive the Dan Tebbetts Memorial Trophy.

Admission to the show is free, and family entertainment will be on hand including DJ Boris “Monster Sound,” Marilyn Pierce and the Redneck Whiskey Band and the Raices Hispana Folkloris dancers.

The events are sponsored by Emporia Brown Express Athletic Club, ESU Karate Club, Navrat’s Office Products, Clint Bowyer Autoplex, Davis Moore, Complete Works Custom Engraving, Mussato Brothers, Genesis Health Clubs, Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, Uncommon Threads Apparel & Signs, Emporia’s Radio Stations and Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau.
