Discover Kansas with Tallgrass Express String BandApril 6, 2012
A free concert on Friday, April 13, is the perfect opportunity for Emporia State students and the community to discover Kansas.
The Tallgrass Express String Band will perform during “Heart of the Land: Discover Kansas Through Music” spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Skillet Atrium of Visser Hall.
The band features Charlie Laughridge of Council Grove, Loren Ratzloff of Canton, Annie Wilson of rural Chase County and Carl Reed of Manhattan wearing historic western dress and playing instruments including fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, upright bass, dobro, harmonica and concertina.
“We feel incredibly lucky to live amidst the splendor and wide open spaces of the tallgrass prairie, and through our music, we celebrate this land and its people,” said Wilson.
The event runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. with the first hour filled with music and the remaining time available to talk to band members and learn more about Kansas and the Flint Hills.
Refreshments will be provided. The event is sponsored by Emporia State’s Office of International Education and Psi Chi national psychology honor society.
