ESU Scholarship Run set for April 26March 30, 2012
Now’s the time to dig out those running shoes from the back of your closet and get ready to raise scholarship money at Emporia State University. The annual ESU Scholarship Run/Walk in memory of John Blaufuss is coming up Thursday, April 26 on the ESU campus.
“We’ve moved the event to Thursday evening to make it possible for more ESU students and families to be involved in helping us raise scholarship dollars,” said Angela Fullen, ESU Foundation annual giving manager.
Runners and walkers will gather at Sauder Alumni Center, 1500 Highland, for a 6 p.m. start. Participants have their choice of a five kilometer run or a two mile walk over meandering courses through the ESU campus before winding up at the finish line in front of the president’s residence.
Parents whose children choose not to participate in the run/walk can take advantage of childcare offered at Sauder Alumni Center during the race. Activities including an inflatable obstacle course, beanbag toss and balloon animal creation will be provided for the kids, along with snacks and beverages.
Now in its seventh year, the event is held in honor of John Blaufuss, former ESU controller. A dedicated runner, Blaufuss was killed while jogging in 2005. His dedication, both to running and to garnering support for the university, is symbolized in the run/walk event.
To preregister by April 6 for $20, download and print the brochure and registration card by navigating to www.bit.ly/esuscholarshiprun. Fill out all required fields, and return it to the indicated address. Registration after April 6 is $25.
Participants may also register at the Sauder Alumni Center during business hours, or at the event beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 26. Event T-shirts will also be available in limited quantities.
Following the race, a reception for participants, family and friends will be held in the Sauder Alumni Center. The public is invited to attend.
