Hornet Telethon reaches out to new studentsMarch 22, 2012
New students will receive an early welcome on Tuesday, March 27 as Emporia State University launches its first-ever Hornet Telethon.
“This is a ‘reverse telethon,’” explained Laura Eddy, director of admissions for Emporia State. “Instead of people calling in, our volunteers will be calling them. It’s a new and different event to make sure our new students understand how welcoming Emporia is.”
From 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, 14 Emporia area leaders along with Emporia State faculty and staff will be calling the more than 200 new and transfer students admitted to the university for Fall 2012. Other volunteers will be writing postcards to send to students who can’t be reached.
The public is welcome to attend the event in Webb Hall of the Memorial Union. They can help write postcards or just enjoy the atmosphere while playing games, enjoying music from the Martin Dinkus Quartet and having photos taken with Corky.
