Power outage planned on campusMarch 13, 2013
Power will be out on the Emporia State University campus from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013, to allow Westar Energy to work on substation on campus.
“This routine maintenance occurs every four to six years,” said Mark Runge, director of facilities for Emporia State University. “As in the past, it is usually performed sometime during the spring break period.”
Emporia State University’s spring break begins Saturday, March 16 with classes resuming Monday, March 25. During the week, March 18 through 22, campus offices will be open.
To allow for the power outage, however, all campus buildings will be closed and locked on Saturday. Regular hours will return on Sunday, March 17.
Weather is a crucial factor for the outage work, Runge said, and rain could postpone the event. If Westar has to postpone its work, the campus community will be notified through email, and local media will be alerted.
