International cuisine showcased at annual festival

Explore the global village that is Emporia State University as Emporia State international students showcase their native cuisines and cultures during the annual International Food Festival. The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 1 in Skillett Atrium of Visser Hall on the Emporia State campus.

Stations include Japan; United Nations made up of Tunisia, France, Uzbekistan, South Korea and Estonia; Iraq, China, Caribbean Connection, Finland, Muslim students, Beta Alpha Psi, France, Egypt, Saudi Club, Spanish Club, Syria, HALO, International Education, South Korea, Mexico, Study Abroad, Russian Club, German Club and African table.

Diners will find a variety of foods, some familiar and some new to them.

Foods include German bratwurst and sauerkraut, tres leches cake, quiche and crepes, tamales, enchilads and flan; Haitian creole, fried plaintains, Turkish coffee, Chinese noodle soups, Karelian hot pot, humus and tabouleh. Menu prices range from 50 cents to $5.

Students also will share their cultures through music and dance, including performances by the Japanese Sakura Choir and a fan dance from the Korean Student Association.
