Deans to focus on student connections and out-of-class learningJanuary 31, 2013
Two Emporia State University administrators have new titles that reflect stronger bonds with students on campus.
Lynn Hobson is now dean of students, and Dr. Gonzalo Bruce is now dean of international education. Both were associate vice presidents of their respective divisions.
“We redefined their former positions to show the more direct connection to students,” said Dr. Jim Williams, vice-president of student affairs. “Both Gonzalo and Lynn will also work more closely with the Provost Council, which represents the academic leadership on campus.”
Hobson’s added duties will include closer involvement with the Center for Student Involvement, Associated Student Government, campus programming, student development and other student-focused programs. Bruce’s new responsibilities reinforce and strengthen the connection between the academic and international student program missions.
Both changes were accomplished without an addition of resources, Williams said.
“The Division of Student Affairs is raising the bar,” Williams said. “Gonzalo and Lynn were both willing to step forward and be the type of ‘go-getters’ that make things happen.”
