Events for Kansas educators offered by Jones Institute

Educators are being offered opportunities to increase their skill and knowledge through workshops provided this spring. The following events are offered through Emporia State University’s Jones Institute for Educational Excellence. Most workshops are offered for graduate credit.   • January 18 Using Literature Circles to Teach Common Core Standards – for English/Language Arts Teachers, Grades 4–12 Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches.  Presenter: Carol Hailey McLean.
  • January 23 – Language Essentials for Teachers of Reading and Spelling (LETRS®) Training - Module 7 – for K-12 General & Special Education Teachers, Reading Specialists, Title I Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches & Paraeducators. Presenter: Judy Rockley, a KSDE-recognized MTSS reading content specialist & certified LETRS® trainer.
  • January 25 – Reaching Rigor, Relevance & Coherence with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics – For Grades K-4 Classroom Teachers who teach mathematics, Administrators, Instructional Coaches, Special Education and Title Teachers. Presenters: Lee Anne Coester, Betsy Wiens.
  • January 28 – "Having It Your Way" in the Next Generation Science Standards – for Grades 7–12 Science Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches. Presenter: Jeanna Scheve.
  • January 30 – Strategies for Implementing Higher Order Thinking Skills in the Elementary/Secondary Classroom – for Elementary & Secondary Educators, Administrators, & Instructional Coaches. Presenter: Ginger Lewman.
  • January 31 – Reaching Rigor, Relevance & Coherence with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics – for Grades 5-8 Classroom Teachers who teach mathematics, Administrators, Instructional Coaches, Special Education and Title Teachers. Presenters: Lee Anne Coester, Betsy Wiens.
  • February 7 – LETRS® Training - Module 5 – Presenter: Judy Rockley, a KSDE-recognized MTSS reading content specialist & certified LETRS® trainer.
  • February 8Inquiry-Based Close Reading to Prepare Elementary Students for the Common Core – for Grades 3-6 Classroom Teachers, Administrators, Instructional Coaches. Presenter: Carol Hailey McLean.
  • February 15 – Mastery Learning in Science and Math: Success for Every Student – for Grades 7–12 Science and Math Teachers, Instructional Coaches. Presenter: Kelly Morgan, Ph.D.
  • February 21 LETRS® Training - Module 11 – Presenter: Judy Rockley, a KSDE-recognized MTSS reading content specialist & certified LETRS® trainer.
