Black Student Union (BSU)

Black Student Union is a service organization, which serves as a bonding force for all students at Emporia State university. The goals of BSU are largely aimed at an atmosphere on the ESU campus, where African-American students can adjust to the environment and be academically motivated. The organization also provides social activites that are geared toward educating the Emporia community. BSU welcomes ALL students and encourgages them to join the organization. Some of the events that BSU holds include: The Annual Step Show, Open Mic Night, Ask A Black Dude, and also Food and Charity Drives.

The purpose of Black Women’s Network is to provide a support system with positive social interaction. The group has a focus on the African-American woman, but is open to all women. All activities will provide opportunities for leadership and personal growth. The women sponsor a variety of activites, including the Ms.Umoja Beauty Pageant and an annual Fashion Show.

Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO)

HALO is an expanding organization that is always looking for new members. Their goal is to get members and students involved in activities throughout the community and on campus. HALO hopes to educate students of the different Hispanic and Latino cultures, and provide unity among them. They also strive to provide leadership skills that will last a lifetime. The vision of HALO is “ADELANTE”, which means, move forward. Any ESU student is welcome to join HALO. This club is not just for Hispanic students. Anyone interested is encouraged and welcome to come to the meetings or any events. And you don’t even need to speak Spanish!

People Respecting Individuality and Diversity in Education (PRIDE)

The purpose of PRIDE is to educate people on sexual orientation issues and tolerance. They support students who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, and/or transgendered, and any other person who seeks their support. PRIDE is not just the “gay” group—no matter your skin color, your race, your national origin, or your sexual orientation, we will respect you and your views. You do not have to be gay to be in PRIDE…allies are welcome! Our main goal is to promote RESPECT.
