The Office of Multicultural Affairs is guided by the mission to promote support and affirm the identities and cultures of individuals who are traditionally and historically disenfranchised in our society. The office also gives all ESU students the opportunity to gain knowledge for becoming an ally on behalf of diversity. Through multicultural programming, student organizations, and leadership opportunities, students get the chance to engage in cross cultural communications and learn to empower the diverse world views and experiences that exist in our society.

The Diversity Education Committee of Emporia State University announces the Presidental Award for Distinguished Service to Diversity

For the first time, the committee is reaching off campus and into the Emporia community for nominees for this award, which recognizes leadership, engagement, and service toward multiculturalism and diversity at Emporia State University and in the larger Emporia community. The committee seeks nominees whose work encourages respect, understanding and appreciation of difference; who make contributions that foster and support the development of cultural understanding and acceptance within and outside the ESU community; who mentor and support emerging leaders from different backgrounds; and/or who develop and support programs to enhance appreciation of cultural differences on campus.

Nomination materials must include the following: letter of nomination (self-nominations accepted); two letters of reference; nominee's resume or cv; transcript for student nominees; supporting materials such as awards received, newspaper articles, or pamphlets about the nominee (not to exceed 10 pages).
