The Office of Multicultural Affairs is guided by the mission to promote support and affirm the identities and cultures of individuals who are traditionally and historically disenfranchised in our society. The office also gives all ESU students the opportunity to gain knowledge for becoming an ally on behalf of diversity. Through multicultural programming, student organizations, and leadership opportunities, students get the chance to engage in cross cultural communications and learn to empower the diverse worldviews and experiences that exist in our society.
The student organizations that are part of the Office of Multicultural Affairs include Black Student Union, Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO), Black Women’s Network, Harmonious Voices of Praise, People Respecting Individuality and Diversity in Education (PRIDE), The EDGE Mentoring and Tutoring Program, and E-Unit.
The Office of Multicultural Affairs is instrumental in promoting academic achievement. Through the Eagerly Dedicated to To Excel and Grow (EDGE) Mentoring and Tutoring Program, students attend academic sessions that promote strategies for success in the classroom along with tutoring and peer mentoring services.
The office also sponsors programs and training that enhance the knowledge of multicultural education and cross cultural communications. Some of the programs offered through the office are HALO week, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration, the Pink and Black Ball (Breast Cancer Awareness), Black History Month, and PRIDE week.
We encourage all individuals to become involved with the office and partake in many opportunities to gain multicultural knowledge and be an active participant toward creating a socially just campus and society.
