Emporia State University Celebrates Black History Month
The focus since the mid-1970s is and continues to be helping students succeed so they may be retained to graduate. The objectives have changed as the needs of the students change. The term "Ethnic American" has been used over the last year by the center. This term is more inclusive and positive. It provides a better description of the students served by the center. The changes which bring us to where we are today were made with careful thought. The office was originally named the Office of Minority Affairs/Minority Programs. In July 1999, the name was changed to the current name of the Multicultural Center. The staff relocated to the highly visible and accessible Memorial Union Main Street location on August 4,1999. In July 2002, the Multicultural Center was absorbed into the fabric of the Memorial Union as Multicultural Programs & Services..
