Introduction: The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers three programs, two of which are full bachelor's level programs (the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Language for French, German, and Spanish, and the Bachelor of Science in Education for French and Spanish) and the third being the endorsement program in ESL (English as a Second Language). |
Vision Statement: The vision of the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures is to prepare qualified and successful professionals in French and Spanish for public secondary school teaching, and also to prepare outstanding professionals in French, German, and Spanish for success in a variety of fields, as well as to provide a basic level of competence in conversational Chinese supported by background in Asian culture. Occasional courses in Arabic, Latin, Italian, and other languages are also offered. |
Mission: Our mission is to develop and train future modern language professionals in both the BA and the BSE. BA students will focus on developing effective and in-depth communication skills on a variety of topics and also an understanding of the target cultures. BSE students will achieve a THOROUGH knowledge in languages and culture, as well as in pedagogical technology, teaching skills, and the appropriate dispositions required for the BSE by the State of Kansas and by the federal government. |
