& Evaluation (3 Credit Hours) |
FL 519 explores theoretical
and practical aspects of language assessment and evaluation, particularly in
measuring second language skills of students in ESOL programs. |

FL 532 Teaching English as
a Second/Foreign Language (3 Credit Hours) |
FL 532 focuses on the
pedagogical aspects of teaching English and the preparation of teaching
materials and tests for classroom use. Like other courses, this course
calls for a highly constructive class participation and very responsible out
of class reading and assignment preparation. |

ED 535 Cultural Awareness
for Educators (3 Credit Hours) |
ED 535 explores personal biases
and methods of overcoming them and the basic principles underlying
multicultural education. This course provides an opportunity to develop
appropriate teaching strategies, activities and materials and to adapt and
evaluate curricula for use in culturally diverse, as well as homogenous,
classrooms. |

Fl 600 focuses on applied
linguistics and how it can directly benefit and improve the teaching of ESOL/EFL.
This course focuses on the processes of second language acquisition and the
nature of first language acquisition. |

FL 735: Practicum in Teaching
ESL (3 credit hours) |
The course focuses on the
students' ability to reflect critically on their own teaching and the
teaching of others. FL 735 involves interaction with the instructor via
e-mail, two seminars, observations and/or self-observations journal writing,
a critique of a professional journal article, and a supervised teaching
experience in ESOL. |
