Si Se Puede Hacer Ciencias Y Matematicas
Yes, I Can Do Science and Mathematics
Funded by the outreach components of successful STEM grants at other Kansas regional institutions
Si Se Puede is a program for 6th-8th grade Hispanic students and is held every year on a Saturday in October. Students participate in four hands-on workshops taught by Hispanic professionals from all over the state of Kansas. The workshops allow students to explore STEM topics such as: engineering, physics, medicine, chemistry, and veterinary medicine.
Students also hear words of encouragement from Hispanic professionals during a formal luncheon in ESU’s Memorial Union. Tours of campus are given by Hispanic ESU students, door prizes are handed out, and each student receives a Si Se Puede t-shirt.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to attend the program as well. The adult sessions focus on how to encourage Hispanic students to study STEM subjects and advice on how to succeed in college.
Registration is on a first come first serve basis and is limited to the first 100 students. Preference is given to those who have not previously attended. On-site registrations will not be accepted; you must preregister. The program marks its 10-year anniversary in 2016.
