KAPPA MU EPSILON

  Kansas Beta Chapter

Kappa Mu Epsilon is a specialized honor society in Mathematics. KME was founded in 1931 to promote the interest of mathematics among undergraduate students. Its chapters are located in colleges and universities of recognized standing which offer a strong mathematics major. The chapters' members are selected from students of mathematics and other closely related fields who have maintained standards of scholarship, have professional merit, and have attained academic distinction. Both men and women are eligible for membership.

The society has grown steadily since its founding and today has over sixty thousand members. The Kansas Beta chapter here at ESU has initiated over 1300 members.

Activities of KME include hosting calculator workshops for ESU students and an annual Math Jeopardy competition. KME members are also invited to periodic seminars, cook-outs, chapter meetings and conferences.

Students may also attend various mathematics conferences including the annual KME convention where they can hear presentations given by fellow undergraduate students. In even-numbered years, Kansas Beta join schools from the North Central region at the regional convention while in odd-numbered years all KME members may attend the national convention.
