About ACM
The Association for Computing Machinery is a network of people, activities, and grass-roots projects. ACM consists
of over 80,000 computer professionals and students, representing more than 100 countries and all areas of industry,
academia, and government. As a student member of ACM you will be able to access the works and thoughts of some
of the most respected people in the field, both indirectly- through conference proceedings and articles, and directly-
by attending conference sessions, taking part in judged contests, and by striking up email discussions. You may
even find a mentor to guide you in your chosen path.
A membership in ACM will allow you to take advantage of every possible opportunity to learn more about your chosen
field. The people you meet through ACM can change the course of your life.
The ESU Chapter
The ESU Student Chapter of the Association for Computing Machinery meets biweekly. The chapter sponsors a number of activities throughout the year which include.
- Power Tool Drag Racing - This competition was modeled after the Power Tool Drag Races competition conducted in the San Francisco bay area. The competition is held during both the Fall and Spring semesters. View photos from our last race.
- International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) - The chapter sponsors a regional competition site for the state of Kansas during the Fall semester. Headquartered at Baylor University and sponsored by IBM, the ACM ICPC is the world's oldest and largest programming competition, consisting of a global network of universities hosting regional competitions that advance teams to the World Finals.
- Attendance at the CCSC Central Plains Conference - The Consortium for Computing Sciences in Colleges is a non-profit organization focused on promoting quality computer-oriented curricula as well as effective use of computing in smaller institutions of higher learning, which are typically non-research in orientation. It supports activities, which assist faculty in making appropriate judgments concerning computing resources and educational applications of computer technology. The conference includes a web page and programming competition for students. The conference is scheduled during the Spring semester.
