Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas is pleased to announce that it will be holding The Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Symposium throughout the month of February 2009.  One unique feature of the symposium is that four graduate students will be invited to offer a presentation/paper (20 minutes in length) prior to the Keynote address.  We are currently seeking graduate students who are working on any aspect of Abraham Lincoln and his involvement in issues as diverse as race, law, politics, campaigning or any additional aspect of Lincoln’s role in the American Civil War.  Graduate students selected to speak at the symposium will receive an honorarium to cover travel expenses and to help support future research in their field of study.  Selected papers will also be encouraged to submit their paper to the Heritage of the Great Plains, a peer-reviewed journal edited and produced at Emporia State University that may offer a special edition devoted to Lincoln and his significance in American history.

Please submit a vita and a two page proposal that highlights thesis, sources and the general significance of your work, to the address below, by October 1, 2008.  Selected papers will be notified by November 1.  Questions?  Contact Brian Craig Miller, Assistant Professor of History, at bmiller4@emporia.edu.
