Internet Instructor Information
Blackboard (Instructional Media)
Blackboard is an instructional media primarily used for internet courses, but is also used to supplement face-to-face courses. For questions about Blackboard or to set up an account for your course please contact your department or TCS.
Please let TCS know your Blackboard needs for each semester several weeks before class begins. Your requests might include copying current Blackboard courses into future semester courses, or creating new web-enhanced or online courses. A course request form is available online at www.emporia.edu/tcs/request-form.htm. If you have questions or need assistance with your Blackboard course, please contact the TCS helpdesk
at 1-877-341-5555 or helpdesk@emporia.edu.
Blackboard Help Documents
TCS provides PDF documents to assist you with instruction in Blackboard. Some of the topics covered, include an overview of Blackboard, using announcements, creating assignments, using the calendar, using the digital drop box, setting up discussion boards, creating groups, grading assignments, and creating learning units. These documents were once listed at www.emporia.edu/tcs/staff/onlineSupport-staff3docs.htm. Contact TCS for current location.
Blackboard Support for Students
Taking an online course can be a challenging experience for students. Not only is the learning environment more isolated than the traditional classroom, but an online course may require more motivation and effort to successfully complete. At Emporia State University, we are committed to providing resources to help make the experience as trouble-free as possible.
Please visit: www.emporia.edu/lifelong/geninfo/bb.htm for details.
Horizon Wimba Live Classroom
Horizon Wimba is a new web conferencing system that will take online courses to a new level of interaction. It will allow synchronous communication with the use of audio, an interactive whiteboard, live presentations, multimedia, and application sharing. Since this presentation environment is unlike any other used at ESU, training is required before using Horizon Wimba Live Classroom. Please contact Zeni Colorado (coloradj@emporia.edu) or Susan Stuart (stuartsu@emporia.edu) for a training session. Those who complete training will become a certified Horizon Wimba Live Classroom Presenter through ESU Technology and Computing Services.
Post Enrollment Information for Students
When students enroll, they are asked to check the Post Enrollment website at www.emporia.edu/lifelong/postenroll for instructions on beginning their Internet course. The site details the responisbilities of Distance Students:
