ESU Metro Learning Center Named as Testing Site

The Metro Learning Center now provides testing for the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency (CAAP), Miller Analogies Test (MAT), and Major Field Tests (MFT). Please visit www.emporia.edu/lifelong/mlc/testing.htm for details.

Test-Outs

Spelling, Reading, Handwriting and Basic Music test-outs will be on Thurs., Jan. 5th. The tests will be given individually throughout the day (9-7) from the KC Advising Office.

Basic Music Test-Out Review

Review the following items:

1. Staff Notation
   • identification of notes on treble and bass clefs
   • identification of sharps, flats
   • identification of notes on ledger lines & spaces
   • identification of interval size (2nd, 3rd, etc)
2. Scales
   • construction of major and minor scales
   • identification of major and minor key signatures
3. Chords
   • construction of major, minor, diminished, augmented, 7th chords, all inversions
   • identification of major, minor, diminished, augmented, 7th chords, all inversions
4. Rhythmic Notation
   • identification of note and rest values through 16th notes
   • identification/explanation of all time signatures
   • supplying correct number of beats per measures in given meters
5. Instruments
   • identification of instruments in four classifications
   • explanation of how sound is produced for each classification
6. Musical Terms
   • definition of all tempo and dynamics musical Italian terms and symbols
   • definition of all musical style terms (staccato, etc)
   • definition of basic musical forms
