The National Archives provides a helpful website on starting genealogical research and guides to finding information on the Web.
Because of the confidential nature of census data, very little is of direct value to genealogists. However, the Census does maintain a site with some information for genealogy research.
Kansas State Historical Society
For researching family ties in Kansas, the KSHS has an extensive collection of materials online and at their Research Room in Topeka.
The U.S. Army, Navy and National Guard published registers of service men and women. Many of these are available on the third deck of William Allen White Library.
The Kansas Adjutant General's Office published directories of Kansas regiments that served in the Civil War. Several of these directories are available in the LIbrary.
The clearinghouse of US Government information has collected information for genealogical research.
