LIBRARY ELECTRONIC CLASSROOM

The William Allen White Library's Electronic Classroom (LEC) is located on the 2nd floor of WAW Library, Room 209C.  The primary purpose of the classroom is to enhance ESU student learning in the access, retrieval, and evaluation of information.

The Library Electronic Classroom contains 22 workstations, plus an instructor's workstation, and is equipped with a SmartBoard and Projection system. All workstations are connected to classroom control software (SynchronEyes) which is an interactive network through which various screen displays can be broadcast and controlled by the instructor.  The needs of physically disabled students can also be accommodated in the LEC.  Up to 22 students may be taught in the LEC during a single session.

The workstations currently provide access to:

  • The Internet via Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox
  • Microsoft Office 2007

Class sessions in the Electronic Classroom are scheduled according to the following priorities:

  1. Course-integrated library instruction related directly to the ESU curriculum

  2. Courses and workshops taught by ESU librarians

  3. University Libraries and Archives personnel training sessions

  4. Classes and workshops taught by ESU faculty or staff.

Scheduling of the Library's Electronic Classroom is handled on a first-come, first-served basis.  Precedence in scheduling sessions will be given to ESU student library instruction taught by librarians.  At least one week's notice is required. To schedule a class session in the LEC for classroom use, please call ext. 5480 or ext. 5207.

Sessions are to be taught only during hours that the WAW Library is open.

For activities in the LEC which are not taught by ESU librarians, a brief training session is required for instructors.

If additional software for special sessions needs to be installed, at least one week's notice is required.  The Library Systems Coordinator will keep a record of these installations, setup changes, and software removals on the workstations.

The LEC is available to the ESU community as a computer lab when there are no classes scheduled.
