The mission of the William Allen White Library is to provide a quiet and otherwise appropriate environment to assure an atmosphere conducive to study and academic research. The first priority of the library is to serve the needs of Emporia State University students, faculty and staff.
The primary use of public workstations within the library is to provide access to information resources for research. Patrons who are using workstations for non-research-related purposes may be asked to relinquish the workstations during times of heavy academic demand.
Children cannot be monitored and supervised by library staff. Therefore, children under the age of 14 entering the library must be accompanied and supervised by an adult over the age of 18. Unaccompanied children entering the library must produce identification showing they are 14 years old or over. Exceptions may be made for children participating in University-sponsored activities scheduled to occur in the library. Parents and/or guardians are responsible for the conduct of their children on library premises and must provide close supervision of their children.
The library does not permit behavior which is not compatible with the use of the library by its patrons or staff. Inappropriate behavior in the library includes but is not limited to the following:
Cell phones may be used in the library for incoming and outgoing calls. However, we want to protect the user's privacy and provide a positive learning experience for all library patrons. Therefore, when you receive a call or need to make a call, please keep your voice low and move to one of these locations:
These areas are designated specifically for cell phone calls, both incoming and outgoing. Signs are posted in the areas about cell phone use.
