Dean Sobieski discussed several issues. Finances will continue to be a major concern in the coming year. Student retention will remain a focus with additional work continuing on promoting faculty mentoring. The Dean does encourage faculty to volunteer to be a faculty mentor. He reported that the College was able to fill 5 out of the 11 open personnel positions this year. He thanked the members of the Dean’s Advisory Committee (Jim Roach, Jean DeDonder, Mike Keck, Betsy Yanik, and Greg Schneider).
Dean Sobieski presented the annual awards for Service, Scholarship, and Teaching in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. In addition to a plaque, Marvin Harrell (Math/Computer Science/Economics) received a $500 award for excellence in service, Greg Schneider (Social Sciences) received a $500 award for excellence in scholarship, and Bryan Grove (Art) received a $1000 award for excellence in teaching.
Sobieski also acknowledged this year’s LA&S faculty retirees who were David Schroeder (Physical Sciences), Don Perry (Art), and Jim Mayo (Biological Sciences). The meeting adjourned at approximately 4:30.
