Procedures for Liberal Arts & Sciences' Election to the Vice President's Advisory Committee
COMPOSITION:
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is represented on the Vice President
of Academic Affairs' Advisory Committee by three faculty members, one
from each of the following areas: communication/theatre and the arts,
and humanities and social sciences, and natural sciences and nursing.
The past year's moderator of the LA&S assembly will represent his
or her area of LA&S on the Vice President's Advisory Committee the
following year. In addition, two more representatives will be elected
from tenure-line faculty of LA&S: one from each of the two areas (communication/theatre
and the arts, the humanities and social sciences, and natural sciences
and nursing) not represented by the past moderator.
ELECTION:
There will be a college-wide call for nominations from the Secretary of
the LA&S Assembly prior to the election. Names for the ballot will
be solicited from the faculty each April by the current Secretary of the
LA&S Assembly. Names sent forth should be only of candidates who have
agreed to serve. Nominees will be full-time teaching faculty, as defined
by the University Policy Manual. This precludes department chairs and
the Associate Dean of the college.
The current LA&S Dean's Advisory Committee will compile a ballot from the nominations that attempts to represent equally the communication/theatre and the arts, the humanities and social sciences, and natural sciences and nursing.
It is hoped that a variety of faculty will be encouraged to place their names on the ballot. It may happen that some names suggested will not make it on the initial ballot. However, it may be possible to add names to the ballot at a late-spring assembly meeting. Nominations may be made from the floor of the Assembly with consent of the nominee.
Members of the new Vice President's Advisory Committee shall be elected by the membership of the Assembly at the final meeting of the year.
The runners-up in each category will be announced and will serve as alternates in the event that faculty representatives cannot complete a term.
LENGTH OF TERM:
Active terms for the current committee begin in August of the academic year and run to May.
