  • Approved Teachers College request to change competency exam requirements for teacher education candidates

  • Approved changes to the format and content of the Council on General Education link on the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences Website
  • Planned and scheduled first university-wide faculty open forum to review the General Education Program

Last Spring, Dean Sobieski asked the Council to review our current general education program. The review will include designating “learning outcomes” for the general education program and implementing an assessment program to measure whether or not our students are achieving these outcomes.

The first university-wide faculty open forum to review our general education program will be held on September 21 from 3:00-5:00 in the Kanza Room. The first forum will focus on two questions: What are/should be the marks of a generally educated person? and What role does/should the General Education Program play in helping students achieve these goals?

Highlights of last year's Council actions, semimonthly meeting agendas and meeting minutes can be found on the General Education Council link to the Liberal Arts and Sciences website.

his year's LA&S representatives to the General Education Council are: Malonne Davies (Physical Sciences), Ellen Hansen (Social Sciences) and Amy Sage Webb (English).
