Subfamily
Ecitoninae
Ecitonine
ants are commonly called army ants. They feed exclusively
on living prey (usually other ants) encountered during
their raids. Colonies can become large, containing thousands
of workers. These ants are usually encountered by chance
since they shun direct sunlight. Two species Neivamyrmex
nigrescens and Neivamyrmex opacithorax
are most likely encountered in the subfamily.
