Snow Flies
by John Richard Schrock

Snow Flies Index of Images

Figure 8. Side view of the head and thorax of a female snow fly, Chinea nivicola, drawn by Dr. Byers. Normally, a winged insect has a thorax full of muscles that poer the wings, and eggs are confined to the abdominal cavity. This shows eight eggs stored in the thorax in the space left by the "missing" flight muscles.
