The Kansas Academic Reading Conference
is a two day professional development opportunity for Kansas classroom teachers of Grades 4, 5, and 6. The focus will be on learning to meet the needs of pre-adolescent readers. Teachers will increase their understanding of the relationship between the reader, the activity, and the text when planning instruction in the content areas of reading.
Teachers will learn how to:
• make instructional decisions based on assessment
• teach content-area vocabulary
• use comprehension strategies before, during and after reading
• integrate technology with 21st century learners in the intermediate classroom
