At this workshop participants will:

  • Review the changes in AYP and state testing
  • Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of a building using their 2009 Kansas assessment data
  • Target indicators for change
  • Analyze data available at the KSDE and CETE web sites for improving student performance and attaining AYP
  • Discuss the differences between Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III strategies for attaining AYP

Participants should bring:

  • CETE login and password
  • KSDE secure login and password
  • The following CETE reports:
    2008 Instructional Planning Graph for reading, math, and science
    2009 Instructional Planning Graph for reading, math, and science
  • A laptop computer with Excel 2007

Featured Presenter

Bob Winkler spent the first 33 years of his career in Shawnee Mission where he served in a variety of jobs including classroom teacher, Title I math teacher, district elementary-mathematics resource teacher, and director of assessment. He retired from Shawnee Mission in 2008, and is currently serves as a consultant for the Jones Institute for Educational Excellence, Topeka Public Schools, KSDE, and CETE. He has written the Kansas Assessment Examiner’s Manual for the past two years as well writing all of the read-aloud scripts for the state assessments. He was the primary question writer for the KATM state math contest and has served on the boards of KATM, KCATM, and the Kansas Assessment Advisory Committee (KAAC). He has been president of KCATM and KAAC.
