Many teachers are concerned about the number of elementary children who struggle with reading. Why do some students struggle with reading and what can be done to increase their success? These questions plague teachers so…..let’s spend some time together discussing these issues and sharing ideas on how to improve the literacy achievement of our students who struggle. Bring scores, informal assessment results, and any other documentation to guide our discussion on literacy issues facing the children in your classrooms.

“In the United States, public schools deliver 85% or more of their curriculum by reading textbooks,
whiteboards, worksheets, and computer screens. It matters little what else they learn in elementary school if they do not learn to read at grade level. Even math depends on reading.”
-- Fielding, Kerr, & Rosier, 2007, p.48
