Conference Sessions

“Please Teach Me to Communicate! Expressive Communication Strategies for Children and Adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder”
by Susan Stokes

Session Description: This training will challenge participants to consider the difficult or unusual behaviors exhibited by a person with ASD in relation to an expressive communication difference. The entire range of expressive communication abilities exhibited by students with ASD will be addressed. Numerous examples of practical instructional strategies to teach various expressive communication skills to students with ASD will be shared.

“Completing the CIRCUIT: CIRCUIT Training for Evaluating Needs of Students with High Disabilities”
by Judith Sweeney

Session Description: Join us for a fast paced introduction to the CIRCUIT evaluation model for high incidence student populations. In this half-day session, we’ll focus on the data collection forms developed over years of working with these students. You’ll learn how to choose which tools to try, observe and collect data while students are using the tools, and make a decision about what to recommend and why.

Susan Stokes has specialized in the area of autism spectrum disorder as both a speech/language pathologist and autism consultant for over 20 years. Susan is Autism Coordinator for Cooperative Educational Service Agency (CESA) 6 and the author of Autism: Interventions and Strategies for Success, a Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction publication.

Judith P. Sweeney founded Onion Mountain Technology, Inc., an educational
