Learning Technology Solutions

Responsible for delivering specialized technologies and software to support the teaching and research mission of the university. Learning Technologies includes classroom technology support, instructional production, creative services, classroom applications, collaborative technologies, and test and evaluation services.

 

Classroom Services

Learning Technologies provides support for nearly 150 classrooms across campus. Called Enhanced Classrooms, we offer both a Tier I and Tier II level of technology integration. Tier I rooms include a PC or Mac, audio system, projector, DVD/VHS player, document camera, and other related technologies. Tier II rooms normally include a PC or Mac and a projector only. The newest generation of Enhanced Classrooms include a smaller, more ergonomic and physically accessible podium. Several rooms across campus also include interactive, digital whiteboards that provide electronic writing and presentation.

 

Lecture Capture Support

Learning Technologies provides Panopto lecture capture support in several rooms across campus. The latest generation of these rooms includes two remote-control cameras and built-in room microphones. This system allows faculty to record their lecture and make it available via the Learning Management System immediately following class. Faculty can also use Panopto on their PC or Mac using a webcam or the laptop camera. There is even a mobile version of Panopto for faculty and students to record from the field.

 

Webconferencing

Learning Technologies provides Adobe Connect support for all faculty, staff, and students. Adobe Connect is a robust webconferencing system that can be used on PCs, Macs, and even mobile devices. Faculty and students can simply use a webcam or laptop camera to communicate. It also support document upload and exchange, including PowerPoint, Word, PDF files, and more. Adobe Connect is integrated with our Learning Management System to provide seamless course-based “rooms” automatically.

 

Learning Management System

Learning Technologies provides the Blackboard Learning Management System (LMS) for all faculty, staff, and students. Courses are automatically generated every semester through the student information system, and students are automatically populated into section-based shells. Learning Technologies staff assist with content migration, troubleshooting, and general product feature support.

 

Clickers

Learning Technologies supports the i>Clicker classroom response system. This is one of the most sophisticated classroom systems available today. Students can either purchase a clicker from the bookstore, or download the software onto their Android or Apple phone. i>Clicker is the only response system that is accessibility certified by the National Federation for the Blind.

 

Videoconferencing Support

Learning Technologies supports two H.323 high-definition videoconferencing rooms. One room provides a sophisticated array of presentation technology that can be used to deliver courses to any other campus with similar technology. This rooms seats 36 and can be arranged in a variety of configurations. A second, smaller room is used primarily as a receive location. We currently share courses with other Kansas colleges and universities, sponsor workshops (Girl and Boy Scout executive meetings; legal depositions, etc.), and support staff meetings of all types.

 

Interactive Learning Space

Learning Technologies offers one of the most sophisticated training venues on campus. The Interactive Learning Space includes three large LCD screens; a 95” interactive whiteboard; AppleTV; Microsoft Kinect capabilities; wireless access; movable tables, and more. Multiple presentations can be run inside the room simultaneously. We typically offer more than 40 training opportunities every semester in this facility. However, any group on campus is welcome to utilize the “Learning Space”.

 

Instructional Design Support

Learning Technologies provides a variety of instructional design support and development ranging from online to face-to-face and hybrid classes. Our team is Quality Matters Peer Review and Online Facilitator Certified. We also have staff who are Google Apps for Education Certified and can assist you in developing courses using Google technologies.

 

Social Media Support

Learning Technologies provides CampusPack social media application support for our academics. Included are support for blogs, wikis, journals, podcasts, and other resources. CampusPack integrates into the Learning Management System, or can be used as a stand-alone product.

 

Videography Support

Learning Technologies provides support for a variety of video services, including pre- and post-production. Our equipment is completely high-definition. We also provide on-demand streaming video for various academic requirements, and live streaming for campus events, such as commencement.
