Questions

1.It might be right in the face, but I can't seem to find the due date for proposals on the web site. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Answer: Proposals will be accepted at any time. Proposals will be reviewed three times per year according to the approximate schedule annually:

October 15

February 16

2. What if I don't know whether my idea will make any money?

Answer: Ideas are not required to make money, although it is one of the criteria that should be addressed in the proposal. Some ideas are great learning opportunities for students or for out-reach to other communities, and those are "returns" in and of themselves.

3. Is there help available for writing a grant proposal?

Answer: Yes, absolutely. The Director of the Center for Innovation, as well as members of the Steering Committee, is there to help you work through the details of writing a proposal. Sometimes arguments that may seem very clear to the writer, may not make as much sense to others who are first reading about the idea. The Director in particular is ready to help you formulate your arguments and present them in the best "light".

4. How developed does my idea need to be before I come to the conversation?

Answer: It really doesn't have to be developed at all. It can be an idea that you want to run past some folks to see how much merit it has, and how you could develop it further to submit as a grant proposal. Rather than worrying about how to write the grant proposal, you may be at the very early stage where you just need to bounce an idea off of someone else.
