Where Can I Purchase These Books?
The ESU Bookstore (http://emporia.bkstore.com/)
Amazon (http://www.amazon.com)
Software:
1) Adobe Flash (versions CS3 and CS4 are acceptable). Swish Max from Swishzone (http://www.swishzone.com) is an excellent software program for creating Flash files that some of you will want to experiment with because it is easier to use than Flash. However, there is no Mac version.
2) Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Photoshop Elements, Paint.net or similar program to edit graphics and images.
3) Audacity audio editing program to create and edit audio. Audacity can be downloaded free for both the Mac and PC (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/).
4) iMovie (Mac), Windows Movie Maker (PC) or other digital video editing program.
* Adobe Captivate is an easy and popular program that many students use to create their final Flash projects for this class but it is not required.
This will likely be one of the most expensive classes you will take in our IDT program. Here are some ideas that might save you money if you are on a tight budget.
1) You should check the Adobe website for student or academic discount prices on the Macromedia programs used in this class. In fact, it may be worth your while to buy the full suite with Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Studio CS3 costs $1800 for corporations. However, students can purchase this suite for less than $600 for example at stores that give academic discounts like http://www.campustech.com.
* Be sure you are buying software from a legitimate source. I've bought software and a video camera at eBay and have had terrible experiences with those purchases. You can buy software on eBay but I wish I never had. In the end I ended up buying full versions of the software from the Adobe website.
2) You may be able to download a free trial of the software at http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ or http://www.adobe.com/products/studio/. Software trials generally last 30 days.
