Summary of Classified Annual Leave Revision
(approved by Kansas Board of Regents on June 12, 2008)
Provisions of K.S.A. 2006 Supp 76-715b (popularly known as Section 6 of S.B. 375) are implemented beginning in FY 2009 to increase annual leave accrual among classified employees as follows, with further adjustments occurring in FY 2010: Hours of Annual Leave Accrued Per Pay Period.
| Years of Employee Service | Present | FY 2009 | FY 2010 |
| Less Than 5 Years | 3.7 | 3.7 | 3.7 |
| 5 but less than 10 Years | 4.7 | 4.7 | 5.5 |
| 10 but less than 15 Years | 5.6 | 6.7 | 6.7 |
| 15 or more Years | 6.5 | 6.7 | 6.7 |
Total accrual of annual leave among classified employees is capped at 304 hours per pay period, the total accrual which is in place for unclassified employees in the Regents system. It replaces total accruals, which range from 144 – 240 hours, based upon years of service. It also eliminates present allowances for classified employees to convert up to 40 hours of annual leave to sick leave at the end of a fiscal year.
Payout of annual leave is limited to 176 hours upon termination of employment and 240 hours upon termination, if the employee is retirement eligible. These cash payout provisions are also identical to those in place for unclassified employees in the Regents system.
