GENERAL BENEFITS INFORMATION

Open Enrollment for group health insurance and flexible spending accounts begins on October 1 and continues through October 31 each year. The elections that are chosen during Open Enrollment become effective January 1st the following year.  This is the employee's opportunity to select the best program for their individual or family needs. You will have the option to choose from the following coverage levels:

        Member Only
        Member and Spouse Only
        Member and Child(ren) Only
Member and Family - with Spouse and Child(ren)

See your State of Kansas Benefit booklet for the cost of the coverage level you choose.

You can view the booklet by clicking here and you can view the rates by clicking here.

Required Information - For each employee and covered dependent, the following information will be required:

Relationship (e.g., child, spouse, stepchild, etc.) The State will request documentation to support proof of relationship or dependency.
Full Name
Social Security Number
Gender
Date of Birth

Medical and Prescription Drug Coverage   - All employees and dependents with medical coverage will also have prescription drug coverage through the Caremark Prescription Drug Program.

Dental Coverage Level - All State of Kansas employees participating in medical coverage will automatically be enrolled in dental coverage. An employee may choose to enroll all dependents covered by their elected medical plan, in the dental plan as well.

Vision Coverage Level - Employees may elect coverage with Superior Vision Services regardless of enrollment in a medical plan.

Pre-Existing Conditions - The State of Kansas does not apply a waiting period for pre-existing conditions for newly enrolled employees and their dependents who enroll in health coverage at their first opportunity or open enrollment. Therefore, employees who may have certificates of creditable coverage from other health plans need not use them.

Flexible Spending Accounts - Employees electing to participate in either the Dependent Care or the Health Care Flexible Spending Accounts must complete a new election every year during Open Enrollment.

HealthyKIDS Program - Eligibility is based in part on family income.  Children in households with incomes up to 250 percent of the Federal Poverty Levels, who would otherwise qualify for the Federal/State HealthWave program, may be eligible for the HealthyKIDS program.  To see if your income may qualify you for the HealthyKIDS, enroll online when making your selections during open enrollment.  Remember - You must re-apply evey year, even if you were eligible and enrolled the previous year.
