Health Education

The Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E.) program is designed primarily to prepare a student for K-12 grade teaching in the discipline of Health Education and to provide an opportunity for the student to select another area of teaching proficiency. This program is a second teaching field only and must be taken with another teaching field.
Program Standards
- The teacher of health education understands health education content, disciplinary concepts, and applies these concepts to the content knowledge development of a healthy educated person.
- The teacher of health education understands the need to foster relationships with colleagues, parents/guardians and other professionals in the learning community and seeks opportunities to grow professionally.
- The teacher of health education uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal and media communication techniques to foster inquiry, collaboration and engagement in various health education settings and understands how individuals differ in their approaches to learning.
- The teacher of health education uses an understanding of individual and group motivation and behavior to create a safe learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation. Admission Requirements
Admission to the Health Education Program
Admission to the health education program occurs during the junior year of study. Students who wish to be a Health Education Major must meet the following requirements:
- Possess an overall GPA of 2.5
- Possess a Health Education content GPA of 2.75
- Possess a General Education GPA of 2.75
- Passed the PPST Praxis I tests
- Applied and been accepted into Phase I education
- Passed all Health content courses with a C or better.
