The Athletic Training Education Program at Emporia State University is a rigorous and intense program that places specific requirements and demands on students. As such, there are very specific policies and procedures that must be followed to enter the program and to continue in the program.

Transfer Student Policy and Procedure

All students wishing to transfer to Emporia State University ATEP must first meet all of the Pre-Professional, Phase I requirements. Upon admission to the ESU ATEP, the student may petition that prior course work and clinical experiences be considered as equivalents of courses and or clinical experiences within the ESU Athletic Training Education Program.

Technical Standards

The Athletic Training Education Program at Emporia State University is a rigorous and intense program that places specific requirements and demands on students. An objective of this program is to prepare graduates to enter a variety of employment settings and to render care to a wide spectrum of individuals engaged in physical activity. The technical standards set forth by the Athletic Training Education Program establish the essential qualities considered necessary for students admitted to this program to achieve the knowledge, skills, and competencies of an entry-level athletic trainer, as well as meet the expectations of the program’s accrediting agency, CAATE. As part of the application process, candidates for entrance into the ATEP must complete the technical standards as part of the application documentation.

Student Health Policies

Athletic training students are required to complete a medical history and physical examination by either a medical doctor or an osteopath doctor demonstrating they are free of communicable diseases and physically capable of meeting the technical standards and a rigorous schedule. The team physician, student health physician, or family physician can give the medical examination using Emporia State University ATEP medical forms.
